Dr. Nihal El Rouby is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy and the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at the College of Medicine, University of Cincinnati. She serves as a Clinical Pharmacogenomics Pharmacist at St. Elizabeth Healthcare. Dr. El Rouby played a key role in establishing the clinical pharmacogenomics service at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, which has provided pharmacogenetic testing for over 4,000 patients since 2019. These tests have been used to individualize drug therapy across various specialties, including oncology, primary care, cardiology, neurovascular intervention, and endocrinology.
Over the past 12 years, Dr. El Rouby has led and contributed to numerous research projects aimed at understanding variability in drug response, optimizing patient care, and advancing the clinical implementation of pharmacogenetics. Her contributions to clinical pharmacology and precision medicine are reflected in over 50 peer-reviewed manuscripts and conference proceedings published in high-impact journals such as Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Genetics in Medicine, JAMA Network Open, and the Journal of the American Heart Association.
Dr. El Rouby has held leadership roles in multiple organizations dedicated to standardizing and advancing pharmacogenetic implementation. She currently serves as Vice Chair of the Pharmacogenomics Global Research Network (PGRN), where she has led and participated in various projects. She is the Vice Chair of the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT) Pharmacogenomics community, and an active member of CPIC, contributing to the development of clinical pharmacogenetic guidelines.
